The Creator In Us All

All art is collaborative. Whether a group performs a dance piece or an individual draws in a closet, there are collaborative elements within every step of making: the hunt for inspiration, the developing of a skill set. It’s Not Painted Yet is a podcast sharing a behind the scenes look at two women empowered by their respective artistic visions. Those two women are my friend and fellow artist Hanna Sosin and I. This podcast is our way of reaching out to other artists and sharing a bit of ourselves with them.

Hanna and I create work that differs in content, media, and style. Our vastly different perspectives are one reason we are such a good pair to host It’s Not Painted Yet. Also we’re friends—so that helps too. Our distinctive journeys made each of us into creators, but Hanna primarily draws while I paint. Hanna works with stories and shares them in a graphic style. I work abstractly and my tools are color and brushstroke. We’re a bit of an odd couple—and our values differ for how we want to share out artwork with the world.

Our three-episode-series covers our artistic backgrounds, our experience with the art business thus far, where we find inspiration, and our directions going forward. Our complementary perspectives add depth and variety to the podcast as we push one another to grow as artists. We believe that in sharing a bit about our own processes, we can reach other artists and continue a conversation about art making while also inciting a sense of curiosity in the non-artistic community who might stumble on the podcast.

The smell of orange zest can inspire a painting. Going to an art gallery can reinvigorate my love of thick paint and desire to bring in aggressive and visceral brushstrokes into my work.

Through looking at other artists work, reading about their processes, or listening to them speak I feel activated to change and modify my own work and process. When I get stuck in my own art, I look to other artists for inspiration and direction. In connecting to another person’s passion, I can rediscover my own.

So, we are here to share our voices with artists everywhere to try to reawaken the passion, the guiding direction, and the creator in us all. We want to awaken the uninspired and infect others with our passion. We want to share tips and tricks that have helped move us forward in our own experiences. We want to facilitate the artistic drive. We hope that an element of this podcast will touch other struggling artists and creators with some shred of inspiration or motivation to latch onto. We hope you find direction in our voices and our stories.

Love,

Eva and her lovely co-host, Hanna
